I had too much wine.

knucklecluck: Slick Rick should be much higher... and although I do like both beastie albums they DO need to just choose one and keep it moving. I dont think that the blueprint should be above reasonable doubt, and although camron's purple haze is def entertaining, I dont know if it should really be on this list at all. I think if they dropped 50 cent, Camron, one of the beasties, added Mobb Deep, Gang Starr, and BDP or KRS? i mean I consider return of the boom bap a classic...

This man knows what he’s talking about. ^_^

I was surprised Mobb Deep wasn’t on there. BDP seemed like it woulda been a shoo in, right?

iaintsayinbutimsayin: I get what you saying but you gotta factor in cultural influence. Timing. And the emotions that the music invoked at the time. It's like people who go to thriller over off the wall. Yeah you hear thriller every Halloween. But off the wall you can press play and walk away. When the world is yours dropped the east felt a sigh of relief in a sense. You had Dre, snoop, Pac dominating for like two years. And then this classic drops. While OBFCL was just an amazingly done LP, it's honestly #3 for me

Shawty, I’m just pleased to see Rae in someone’s top 5 LOL

But I feel exactly what you’re saying about Nas coming in to save the East Coast’s ass. :) Illmatic still evokes nostalgic emotions, but it’s all relative and person by person.

I honestly prefer the Infamous over OB4CL and I deeply love both. But I’m biased because I was listening to P speak my whole mind state as a violent teen in NY. But Purple Haze is on that list and Mobb isn’t so that’s wild sus alone.

See..that’s exactly what I’m saying. Any list of this type is biased because people put how they feel behind their choices. You relate more to Infamous because it was more relevant to your life, you built memories around that shit, dig? So no one can knock your opinion about it.

lmao @ that last line!

ramblingsofanurbanjawn: Im torn re: Cuban Linx vs Illmatic. Im leaning towards Illmatic but I cant quite put my finger on WHY I feel that way.

Please figure out why, hun, cause we see eye to eye on most every damn thing and I wanna know why that’s changing! *stamps foot* lol

Illmatic has so many beauties, truly it does, but something just won’t let me say it’s better than Illmatic.

What I can say is that Nas is a better lyricist than my half-moon ceasar sporting love Raekwon. I will admit this freely. Nas consistently knows his way around a pen and pad, while Rae has had some misses lol Also, Illmatic has more playable whenever joints.

However, the feeeeelings that Cuban Linx gives me is more than what Illmatic gives. I love that…that….grimy, gutter shit, and Rae delivers that in a nice little package for me. :)

ramblingsofanurbanjawn:

I dont know I necessarily agree with Sugah’s comments. I’d keep the Beastie’s on there twice but I would say Hello Nasty over Paul’s Boutique considering PB leaned more towards a punk sound and that was a hip hop list. I agree about the Tribe/De La comments.

Other than that….sure.

It might be that I’m not big on the Beastie Boys like that. I didn’t have a fond memory surrounding them until I was about 17/18, so while I treasure my Licensed to Ill album and fux with Hello Nasty, I just never really got into em like that.

Maybe I should if Sashi thinks so. ^_^

iaintsayinbutimsayin: I'm one of the biggest big fans there is. But illmatic was close to perfection. First five mics (when that mattered) and really restarted the Convo on east coast hip hop. At that point the west was running shit.

Riiiiight, I get that..I really do. But number one? Best album outta NYC??

Nahhh, b.

These hip-hop purists my want to chop off my head for saying this: for me, I’d easily take Cuban Linx over Illmatic, any day of the week.

I was gonna say that perhaps, if I had heard Illmatic before I heard Cuban Linx, I might rock with Illmatic more. But um, I heard Low End Theory before I heard Midnight Maruaders, and we clearly know who wins that competition. lol So yeah..:)
